Stage Picture: How-To

Basic Instructions

  • Give a prompt for stage picture, ie:  What do you predict will happen next in the story?, What does justice look like?, What was the problem in the story?
  • As a class, brainstorm images that come to mind based on the prompt. Write ideas on the board.
  • Ask for a volunteer to start the picture by creating a statue in front of the class.

Continue calling on students to build/elaborate on the first student’s statue until a cohesive group image (or stage picture) is created.

  • Read the image:

Describe: What do you see?

Analyze: What could be happening in this image? / What can you infer about how this character is feeling or thinking? / What do you notice about the relationship between these characters?

Relate: What could we title this image? / When is a time in your life when you felt like this character?
