February 2016

Review for STAAR using Creative Learning Strategies: Math and Science
(Teachers 3-12)

This intensive will focus on drama-based strategies that are well suited to use in review sessions for STAAR testing. Teachers will explore why they might use a certain strategy to review information and how to successfully facilitate for maximum retention. Grades 3-12.

$$ Extra duty pay will be offered.

CANCELLED: A Creative Eye for STAAR Writing
(Teachers 2-5)

This session offers fun, creative, encouraging strategies to help students develop as writers. We’ll explore a variety of techniques for teaching expository and narrative writing skills while keeping students engaged and enlivened. We’ll cover everything from the microscope teaching moments to structured lesson plans. Ideal for fourth-grade teachers preparing for test day, but just as juicy for second- and third-grade teachers wanting to help their students develop skills early.

Review for STAAR using Creative Learning Strategies: Reading, Writing and Social Studies
(Teachers 3-12)

This intensive will focus on drama-based strategies that are well suited to use in review sessions for STAAR testing. Teachers will explore why they might use a certain strategy to review information and how to successfully facilitate for maximum retention. Grades 3-12.

$$ Extra duty pay will be offered.

Exploring Complex Texts (Secondary)
(Teachers 6-12)

In this intensive, teachers will engage with ways to use drama-based pedagogy to teach complex texts, from Shakespeare to poetry to historical documents. The session will focus on different ways to activate challenging pieces of text using students’ bodies and voices. Additionally, the intensive will offer ways to foster collaborative exploration of complex texts, focusing specifically on ways that students can help each other understand and make meaning of written pieces of text. All teachers are welcome, but this intensive may be particularly helpful for middle and high school teachers that focus on ELA and social studies.

(Teachers 3-12)

This intensive will focus on drama-based strategies that are well suited to use in review sessions for STAAR testing. Teachers will explore why they might use a certain strategy to review information and how to successfully facilitate for maximum retention. Grades 3-12.

$$ Extra duty pay and child care will be offered.

Creative Action Residencies
(Teachers PK-2)

This session is designed for teachers whose classes participate in “Storybook Adventures,” “The Heroes/Los Heroes,” and “Journey Into the Story: The Secret Footprints.”  We will explore how you can adapt creative learning strategies modeled in these residency programs for everyday use in your classroom, and how to reinforce and extend student learning regarding content addressed in each program.

Substitutes will be provided.

Addressing Bullying Through Creative Teaching and Learning  
(Teachers PK-12) 

APPROPRIATE FOR TEACHERS WHO ARE NOT RECEIVING CREATIVE ACTION IN-THE-CLASSROOM PROGRAMS

In this interactive, hands-on workshop, educators will explore how creative teaching an learning techniques can be used in classrooms of all grade levels and subject areas to engage young people in learning about bullying and related issues.  We will explore ways to integrate this learning across your curriculum.

Substitutes will be provided.

March 2016

Lesson Planning with Drama-Based Instruction
(Teachers PK-12)

This intensive will focus on how and why to link drama- based instruction and creative learning strategies to create scaffolded lesson plans. Teachers will have the opportunity to participate in a DBI model lesson; help to deconstruct and analyze the lesson, and have time to plan their own scaffolded creative learning lesson for their classroom with DBI facilitators in the room to assist.

$$ Extra duty pay will be offered.
